São Martinho do Porto is a pleasant village located on a beautiful and calm bay.
The village has about 5000 inhabitants and belongs to the city of Alcobaça.
This cosy and well-maintained seaside resort extends on the edge of the almost circular bay. This bay is connected to the ocean via a narrow opening between 2 rocky hills. The bay is surrounded by hills and dunes and offers a beautiful, arched sandy beach. In summer there are many coloured square beach tents here, which you can rent.
On the north side of the bay is the small fishing harbor, where many small boats are moored. Because of his bay and the many possibilities, São Martinho do Porto is an attractive seaside resort.
The beach promenade is very pleasant and child-friendly for walking or cycling, there are many shops and little bars if you want to stop.

There are cosy and good (fish) restaurants by the beach and in the centre. Every day there is an indoor market with fresh vegetables, fruits and fish.
Within walking distance of the apartment, you will find several local shops, a doctor, an optician, some clothes shops, … 500 meters further towards Nazaré is the supermarket Intermarché.
The higher part of the town offers you a beautiful view of the entire bay and its beautiful surroundings. It is also accessible by public elevator from the tourist office.
Many hiking trails start from Sao Martinho do Porto, and mountain bikers also get their money’s worth. Cycling along the Atlantic Ocean is an unforgettable experience.
On the south side of the bay is the picturesque village of Salir do Porto, where it is also good to stay. In this corner of the bay is a beautiful high dune (fun for the kids to slide down on a board). Behind the local pool, you can start an adventurous hike to the opening of the bay.
São Martinho do Porto and Salir do Porto are centrally located in a very beautiful area of Portugal, named Costa de Prata. The more touristic places are easy accessible: Nazaré at only 10 km, Alcobaça at only 24 km, Batalha at 44 km, Fátima at 75 km, Caldas da Rainha at 10 km, Peniche at 45 km and the very beautiful Óbidos at 20 kilometres.
Even Lisbon is easily accessible at about 90 kilometres.
Accessibility is generally not a concern: 5 minutes by car is the A8 between Porto and Lisbon. If you prefer to take public transport, you can take the train from the picturesque station at Sao Martinho do Porto. Or you choose Rede Express, a kind of Inter-City by bus. This will take you to Lisbon within an hour.
In short, São Martinho do Porto and Salir do Porto are a good starting point for your exploration of the Costa de Prata.
The beautiful bay is a paradise for children and water sports enthusiasts.
